Learning Areas:
GDE CAPS Curriculum. Phonics, Sight Words, 3 Main Learning Areas: Life Skills, Mathematics and English. Maylill is an approved Department of Education Grade R site. When children enter Grade R their fine and gross motor skills should be fully developed. Emphasis is now placed on working independently, being able to sit still at a desk for the duration of the lesson. Children are encouraged to participate in class discussions. Free play and fantasy play is an important as it allows children to express themselves with confidence. Leadership skills are developed as children have turns to be class monitors. Toilet routine is totally independent. Classroom set up is based on formal schooling. Children do not sleep in grade R. A school readiness test is done for all children at the end of Grade R. Maylill grade R learners pass rate has been 100 percent for the past 3 years. Our Grade R’s go highly recommended to all primary schools
